Measuring environmental impact

The carbon footprint is a method of calculating greenhouse gas emissions by taking into account the primary and final energy of products and services. It is an attempt to respond to several issues (demographic, environmental, geaostrategic) as well as their effects on climate, such as global warming, desertification, rising water levels, and the collapse of biodiversity. To assist its customers with the calculation of their project’s carbon footprint, Saint-Gobain PAM is able to provide Environmental Product Declarations in accordance with standards EN 14044 and EN 15804 regarding life cycle analysis .

Life Cycle Analysis (LCA) provides an effective method for assessing the environmental impacts of a product, service or process. This analysis goes beyond the carbon footprint since it allows for the analysis of multiple impacts. It is used to evaluate the impact on the environment of a product or service (transport of water) throughout its life cycle, that is, from the moment it is manufactured to the moment it is recycled.

Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) is the equivalent of a Life Cycle Cost Analysis and takes into account the cost of the pipeline throughout its entire life cycle. This period includes purchase, installation and maintenance, as well as end-of-life recycling. The PAM solution in ductile cast iron benefits from a remarkable return on investment thanks to its very low maintenance requirements, its watertightness and the savings this offers in terms of reduced pumping.
This cost of ownership analysis is used to improve the selection of materials for long-term investments such as water supply and wastewater networks.
The use of life cycle cost for tender selection is strongly recommended in the European Directive 2014/25 Article 83 relating to public procurement.

Respecting local norms and standards

Every project, every customer, every country has their own distinct set of requirements and needs. In order to be able to support all of these demands, Saint-Gobain PAM invests in quality on a daily basis and takes concrete steps to prove it. All of our products comply with current European (EN) and international (ISO) standards, and we already adhere to the primary international norms and standards, such as ISO 9001 (quality management systems); ISO 14001 (environmental management); ISO 2531 and EN 545 (both specific to ductile iron pipelines), while exceeding expectations and respecting local requirements.

The quality control process is regularly audited by external third party bodies that issue compliance certificates.
