Project specifications

Public contracting authority: SEDACUSCO

Contractor: SADE CGTH Peru

Length: 18 kilometers

Application: Renewing an old pipeline with a new water system for drinking water.

DN: DN 400-800

The project took place near the Piuray Lake, located 3800 meters above sea level. This vast Lagoon provides water to the city of Cusco which is the second most important city in Peru. The antique capital of the Inca Empire was one of the most significant city in the Viceroyalty of the Peru.

In 1983 Cusco has been declared a World Heritage Site by the UNESCO. Cusco is well known internationally for being the home of one of the most iconic places in the world: the Inca ruins of Machu Picchu, one of the seven wonders of the modern world.

The central purpose of the project is to make a real improvement in the region by treating the lake water to make it fit for human consumption and providing local populations a current water service.

Besides, the antique pipeline presented several failures in the pipeline assembly which caused high maintenance cost. The installation of the new pipeline will permit a transport of water in a more secure way by preventing any kind of leakage in the structure.

The new water system will improve the storage capacity of clean water and preserve the pressure of water service, allowing the transport of 420 liter per second in the pipeline.
