The ORION project
An industrial revolution to serve your projects
The ORION project involves replacing blast furnaces with an electric arc furnace.
The new smelting process replaces coke with electricity and uses recycled scrap metal. This change of process allows sustainable pig iron to be created without adverse effects on product quality.
Combined with the Thor and Vulcain furnaces, it will allow PAM to produce the lowest-carbon pig iron in Europe.
Supported by the French government through ADEME (the French Agency for Ecological Transition), Orion is currently at the public consultation stage. It is scheduled to be commissioned in 2028.
