Install Plus
The frame leveling and installation system
As traffic speed and frequency increases, there’s a greater need for reduced roadworks (and ironwork reinstatements) to allow our national and local road networks to run smoothly. This can only be achieved if ironwork installation practices, materials, solutions, and the specification that govern them evolve and adapt.
Reinstatements caused by poor workmanship, or a lack of understanding on the correct use of materials, is estimated to cost £200m per year – a cost that can be reduced significantly if a best practice is adopted.
As part of our research and development programme, we developed a solution that ensures a right first time approach to installation. Our key aim was to provide a system that will reduce the installation time while enabling efficient use of bedding and reinstatement materials, reducing whole life costs.
The result of this was the development of the Install Plus frame levelling system, which we engineered to reduce risks and save time and money when installing carriageway access cover and gratings. As well as being a frame levelling system, it is the only solution on the market that provides guidance on the position of the frame within its surroundings and the optimum depth of bedding mortar needed to achieve a durable installation.

How Install Plus Works
There are a number of key elements that combine and are key in guaranteeing the durability and long-term performance of the installation:
-
Frame height, level and gradient
It's important that the top of the frame is flush with the surrounding surface. To accommodate changes in gradient and camber, further adjustment can be made by rotating four nylon bolts (Figure 1) clockwise to raise the frame to the required level. The bolts have a range of adjustment of 15mm to 50mm.

-
The depth of the bedding material is assured by four nylon inserts (Figure 2), which are located on the underside of the frame flange. These are pre-set to allow for a minimum and consistent depth of bedding mortar of 15mm on the underside of the frame.

The flowable bedding mortar envelopes the flange, creating a single consistent layer throughout. The bedding indicator on the top of the Install Plus insert (Figure 3) provides guidance, ensuring the mortar is poured to the minimum depth of 20mm above the flange.
