In 2016, Saint Gobain PAM UK partnered with contractor Clancy Docwra on the Station Road Hook project in Hook, Hampshire. The scheme formed part of the region’s Southern water infrastructure improvements and utilised PAM’s NATURAL range of large diameter pipes.
Although relatively small in scale at 350 mm diameter, the project presented unique operational challenges. The pipe route passed through constrained residential areas, requiring highway closures and careful navigation around multiple existing utilities, including gas mains. These restrictions limited excavation progress to approximately three metres of trench per day.
Saint Gobain PAM UK’s long-standing relationship with Clancy strengthened during the earlier Outwood to Buckland scheme helped streamline collaboration. The PAM team conducted site visits to review delivery zones and jointly agreed safe highway unloading points, accommodating the narrow working areas. To minimise disruption for residents, timed deliveries were implemented, ensuring materials arrived only when needed and could be unloaded efficiently within the restricted highway space.
Despite its compact footprint, the Station Road Hook scheme showcased the effectiveness of close contractor supplier cooperation. Through tailored logistics planning, alignment on safe working processes, and the use of reliable ductile iron pipeline solutions, the project successfully met its technical and community impact constraints, reinforcing PAM’s reputation as a dependable partner for complex urban water installations.
